This is the brand new Yashica FX-D 300 – a camera designed to look, shoot and create images just like the Yashica FX film cameras of yesteryear. Which, it does… but also, kinda doesn't…

When I see a phone sized lens on a camera I know it’s bad
what a disgrace to the yashica legacy
Yay, here before it goes into landfill
i’m baffled as to why they couldn’t just go with the preexisting and well established micro four thirds mount… like the camera is tiny, but it could also very easily support such a mount
truly remarkable stupidity on their behalf
Looks like someone had an overstock on 1st generation smartphone camera sensors in the corner of some dusty warehouse that nobody would ever use in a phone any more, and tried to find a way to move them. Enter this “scam-era”.
So besides the look and the variable aperture it’s pretty much just a smartphone camera but without benefits of computational photography. And you pay for it more than for a good smartphone with three or four cameras.
Yashitca.
I own and use very often a mint condition 60mm Yashica macro lens, watching this video hurts. Sometimes it’s best a company just fades away and no one ever revives them ever again.
Nothing more refreshing than the fresh smell of landfill! These “Yashica Cameras” need to face the One Grit and then be chucked into the bin along with Vivitar and those “4K” toy scameras.
Also, if it says Sakar International, then you’re getting nothing but e-waste.
Add Vishitar as well too for purveyors of e-waste (aka Vivitar)
I was thinking $99, maybe $129, to compete with the Camp Snap and Echolens crowd, but at $469! What do they think they are selling, an X-Half?
Point and shoot used to have such cameras
Honestly yeah…a 20MP type 1″ sensor with a 35mm piece of real glass and a processor that can actually handle all of the features in the camera with that better sensor and this thing would be way more compelling.
The solution to the entry-level camera dilemma is getting an old Sony NEX, any NEX, in good shape.
@voidlila That would make it rather expensive to build, and they’re not about that, the whole goal was to get $40 of hardware and sell it for 600.
@voidlila I think it’s not stupidity, they wanna trick people into buying a cheap phone camera for a big price.
Yeah… considering the X half can now be had for <$500 new... (Disclaimer: I did recently get the X half as an early present for myself to see if it lives up to the "fun" vibes and was kinda excited about this one too. Luckily not at all tempted to purchase yet another camera!)
I knew this would be a scamera !
Thanks for the warning!
@zzz23523 i guess that does make more sense yeah, they were just trying to make something cheap (and bad)
8:00 digital zoom…. just like a $8,000 Leica then
Sad to see the once great Yashica name dragged through the mud again. I had a YashicaMat 124G back in the ’80s and it spat out gorgeous images that gave a RolleiFlex a real run for the money.
Second hand Olympus E-M10 MK II or III + some basic lens is much better option.
Same here.
Yashiva has no legacy anymore. Their legacy is this and the last scamera they made.
A real piece of Yashita
or an olympus, lumix, any old DSLR… literally anything but an e-waste scamera… especially not from Swiss Lies, Incorporated (aka. i’m back)
@opticalecho119 don’t blame what remains of yashica. blame the swiss air merchant company “I’m Back”. They’re extremely hateable if you know their history. Basically have never delivered on their promises, and consistently awful customer service.
The X-half is gimmicky, overpriced and very very limited. Get a Nikon Zfc.
@nkr1159 People into the XHalf don’t want an interchangeable lens camera that’s even more expensive
my thoughts exactly
So basically they stuffed my car’s dashcam into some plastic body and ask for > $400 for it, neat!
Sounds like a Nikon 1 with a prime lens.
$469! Oh my there are going to be a few disappointed purchasers. I’ve just paid £699 for a Full Frame Panasonic camera with a kit lens and a 5 year warranty. The world’s gone mad.
Man, our old family camera was a black Yashica film point-and-shoot. Wasn’t the best by any metric, but that little beast was responsible for almost 70% of our photo albums from before 2005.
They were taking a risk putting a trash button on that camera. If it was entirely functional, the camera would disappear when you press it.
I have mark1
All they did was buy the name and that’s it.
I appreciate that you keep covering these “Yashica” cameras, since I almost never hear about them from anyone else. It’s interesting that they keep adding features and making an attractive looking product, I guess I keep hoping they’ll actually make one with a proper processor, sensor, and lens…
